THABAMATI LUXURY TENTED CAMP

Thabamati Luxury Tented Camp is a venture by the dedicated team of conservation-minded people running Shindzela Tented Camp.

Both camps are owned by the same family and are situated in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa.

​The idea behind two camps with completely different styles arose during years of travelling to various destinations in Africa – separate products, both offering a unique and authentic taste of what it means to stay in a safari tent amid the sights and sounds of the African bush.​

Thabamati, meaning “mountain and water”, became a reality in 2019.

The camp consists of 4 luxurious and spacious en-suite safari-style tents, each overlooking a beautiful dam with amazing views of the Drakensberg Mountains beyond.

The elegant intimate tented camp accommodates only 8 guests, which is an added attraction.

The highlight is probably observing the wildlife, including the Big Five and numerous bird species, in their natural surroundings during our game drives and optional daily short bush walks.​

Thabamati Luxury Tented Camp is eco-friendly, utilizing only solar power and gas, but still offering modern-day luxuries.

This means that you can enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer with a green conscience.

Accommodation at Thabamati Luxury Tented Camp:

The luxury Java safari-style tents at Thabamati are situated next to a dam and are built in such a way that each has a view of the water.

All tents are an open-plan concept furnished with a writing desk, seating area, bedroom, and en-suite bathroom with a private WC.

Luxurious free-standing bath, inside and outside shower, all with views overlooking the dam.

Amenities with the scents of Africa are provided for your enjoyment.

Enjoy morning coffee/tea on your private deck staring out over the water, before embarking on the morning safari.

Return to camp, and enjoy a selection of pastries, fruits, freshly baked breads, and cheeses followed by a hot breakfast.

Bushwalks are offered after breakfast for about an hour.

Upon completion, enjoy the views with a good book or cool down in the pool before high tea is served followed by your afternoon safari.

Enjoy the evening sky and fire crackling in the boma for dinner before turning in for the night.

Safari Activities at Thabamati Luxury Tented Camp:

Thabamati offers two safari game drives per day – one in the morning and one late afternoon/early evening.

We make use of one spacious modified game viewer seating 8 guests comfortably (4 rows of 2 individual seats). ​

Immerse yourself in nature while seeking out animals and birds of the Southern African bush and enjoy morning coffee and sunset stops along the way.

​Each safari activity is led by a qualified field guide who will share with guests his passion and knowledge of the animals, birdlife, and vegetation.

A full safety briefing will be conducted before embarking on your first African safari.

We also offer a short morning bushwalk after breakfast, focusing more on smaller animals and vegetation that one does not necessarily observe in detail during game drives.

To participate in the morning, bushwalk, guests need to be physically capable of walking for about 1 hour without any assistance and need to understand and speak English.

Ages allowed to partake are 16 years up to 60 years.

If you exceed the upper age limit, a medical certificate or Doctor’s note is required confirming that you are physically fine to participate in the walk.
