SHINDZELA TENTED CAMP
Shindzela Tented Camp was established in 2009 as a mere walking trails camp consisting of small bow tents.
Shindzela has grown into a wonderful, tented camp that is just a wonderful destination. Situated within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa, Shindzela offers guests an authentic African wildlife experience.
The eco-friendly (solar-powered) camp is the perfect place to feel part of the bush.
We are passionate about conservation and our staff strive to make guests feel right at home.
We aim to provide an enjoyable and fulfilling experience in an exceptional wilderness area.
Upon your arrival at Shindzela Tented Camp, you will be welcomed by either one of our guides or front-of-house ladies, who will assist you with checking in (filling in an indemnity form and going through our safety rules and daily program), after which they will then take you through to your tented accommodation.
Enjoy lunch before embarking on your first late-afternoon/early-evening safari.
Summer/Winter Programme (times may vary, depending on the season and animal activity).
Accommodation at Shindzela Tented Camp:
Our safari-style tents at Shindzela are situated under thatch (grass-roof structures) and can be made up in either twin or double-bedded accommodation.
Enjoy morning coffee on your wooden deck or freshen up in your semi-open en-suite bathroom (shower, WC, and hand basin).
The camp can accommodate a maximum of 16 guests in total in 8 safari tents where you will be treated to our warm South African hospitality in a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy and soak up the true African wilderness.
Dining at Shindzela Tented Camp:
Included in your stay at Shindzela 3 meals per day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
For breakfast you will be handed a slip during pre-dinner drinks the night before, to select tasty dishes for your hot breakfast served plated style.
Fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and juice will be provided in the dining area.
Lunchtime will either be a traditional bobotie served with freshly baked bread and salads or handmade South African-style pies to name a few.
After lunch, you can then make your preferred selection of various meat & vegetable dishes that you would enjoy for dinner.
All drinks are excluded from your accommodation rate, you can just ask any of the Shindzela staff members to assist you with ordering a drink and we then add this to your tent number, which you can settle upon departure with either cash or credit card (VISA /MASTERCARD), if you opt to settle your account with your credit card, there will be a small transaction fee added to your final bill.
Safari Activities at Shindzela Tented Camp:
Included in your stay, Shindzela offers two game drives per day in open 4 x 4 vehicles– one early morning and one late afternoon/early- evening.
We seat 8 guests per vehicle of which Shindzela has 2 safari vehicles operating on a private concession of approx. 6500ha together with two other commercial lodges.
Your guides at Shindzela Tented Camp will endeavour to track the big mammals in the bush, inform you of the insect and plant life, and point out some of the 350 bird species in the area.
Also, be on the lookout for crocodiles and hippos at dams.
If you’re fortunate, you may even see wild dogs.
In addition to the big five animals, we have an array of nocturnal creatures such as bush babies, civets, genets, African wild cats, and porcupines.
Also included in your stay at no additional cost are our morning walking trails, should you choose to substitute a one-morning game drive with a morning walking safari instead.
Our trails usually last for between two and two and a half hours.
During summer months the walking safaris may be of shorter duration due to the thicker vegetation and summer heat.
All our walking trails are led by experienced, qualified, and armed trail guides.
A maximum of 8 guests are allowed on a guided walk.
For your safety and enjoyment, should you participate in the game drives or walking trails, please adhere to the safety instructions given by our guides.
To book the morning walking trails you can chat with your guide upon arrival at Camp to arrange this, (remember that this is a weather-dependent activity).
If you choose to go on our morning walking trail, please note the following qualifying criteria:
You need to be able to understand and speak English, be in good physical condition, and be between 16yrs and 60yrs, if you are above 60, we require a medical certificate stating that you can walk in the African bush within a big 5 dangerous game area and be able to walk for about 2,5-3 hours.
Our guides will do their utmost to offer guests sightings of the larger animals, but our walks are more of an educational experience focusing on our amazing fauna and flora!
